CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Basic Classes are held multiple times throughout each month. Tools for these classes are supplied, as are some materials. Classes are either skill oriented, like Peyote, project oriented, like Beaded ornaments, or most often a combination of both. Most classes cost $25.00 with an occasional kit fee if materials need special consideration.

Stringing Basic:
This class is for anyone who wants to create professional looking strung projects. Learn about different stinging materials, findings and the helpful tools used to design and create beautiful strung jewelry. You will complete a necklace and bracelet of your own design in this fundamental level class. You are responsible for supplying you own beads and clasps. We supply everything else.

Wire Basic:
In this class you will learn how to form the basic wire components in most jewelry. Using various tools (we supply) you will make jump rings, split rings, loops, wrapped loops, coils, scrolls and cages. This is a basic class that offers lots of practice time and the skills to fix all that jewelry you haven’t worn because something is broken! We supply everything needed for this class.

Stone Wrap:

If you’re like most of us, you have a special stone you found or were given, that you would like to wear. In this class you will learn a variety of techniques to wrap rough or tumbled stones. We supply the wire and stones for class practice and as always, in store tools are available.

Peyote Stitch:
Traditional Peyote stitch has endless possibilities of pattern and use. In this class we learn the basic stitch, how to add thread and end a piece with a variety of clasps. We also cover how to follow a pattern and chart our own. We make a bracelet as our project. Students will be responsible for the materials for this class as they will finish the project on their own.

Polymer: “Beginner’s Class”
Making ‘canes’ (logs of clay with a pattern running through their entire length, from which identical slices can be cut …think of a jellyroll as one example)… the resulting patterns in canes can be simple, complex or anything in-between; they also can be pictorial or simply geometric …the canes and their images can be “reduced” so that
the they become quite small, the combined repeatedly to make multiple images… caning is much-used technique for many clayers.

Polymer: “Intermediate & Advanced”
Once comfortable with handling and working with polymer clay there are many, many techniques and projects that can be accomplished. These techniques include possibly using paints, foils, powders, and other inclusions, the various types of polymer clays (regular opaque, metallic-mica, translucent, and liquid).

The remainder of our classes varies from month to month depending on availability of instructors. They include, but are not limited to:

Rosary:
String a meaningful, hand-crafted piece for yourself or to give as a gift. Combine art and meditation in this thoughtful project. Students are responsible for beads and findings.

Free Form Wire Bending:
Create rings, bracelets, necklaces and even ‘bugs’ out of various gauge wires and beads in this class that utilizes wire bending techniques and your imagination.

Wire Sculpture, Border Wrap:
Learn classic patterns to wrap cabochons and finished stones to be used as pendants. There is a fee for materials kit.

Byzantine Patterns:
Endless possibilities and patterns made with jump rings. Using various metals and wire gauges we will make an assortment of chain sections appropriate for bracelet or necklace projects. Because we are using a variety of wire materials there is a kit fee for this class.

Wire Crochet:
-- Coming in April!

Pearl Knotting:
A classic, learn to knot and finish a luxurious strand of pearls for a professional look.

Beaded Cabochon:
Using seed beads stitch an elegant collar around a finished cabochon, add a Peyote Bezel and you’re created a stunning pendant. Knowledge of Peyote stitch is helpful in this class. Students are responsible for cabochon, seed beads and stringing materials.

Loom Weaving:

Learn to wrap and weave using a simple loom. Follow a pattern to make a bracelet that will get attention.

Potpourri Bracelet/Necklace:
Show off those wonderful leftover beads in this fun project that has as many variations as you have beads. Basic stringing and a simple stitch make this project a hit. A very popular craft show seller!

Bead Embroidery:
A sampler of stitches creates a rich and varied beading project. Cover a button, a fancy decorative box lid, create an heirloom!

Beading Stitches:
In addition to Peyote, we offer a number of classes that teach beading stitches including Spiral stitch, Ladder stitch, Right Angle Weave, Square Stitch, Netted Stitches, etc.

As always, if you don’t see a class offered for a project you’re interested in, just ask!
We’re always looking for new projects too and if we can incorporate it into our schedule with a knowledgeable instructor – we’re happy!
